SUMMARY:AAC Art Critique
DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATE!\nAAC Art Critique – Sept. 13\, 2026\nSame Time\, Same Place – 1-4 pm\, Carriage Hill Clubhouse\n> \nThe May joint critique with the Channel City Camera Club was a huge success. We had a full house of 34\, including guests and observers. 28 artists participated\, half of whom were Camera Club members or invited guests\, and everyone was aware of the energy and renewed enthusiasm throughout the day. It was a unanimous decision to continue inviting and hosting other art associations to participate in the critique events. The Camera Club will be joining us again for the September art critique\, and you are welcome to invite other guests to attend and show their work. \nRemember\, per membership request\, there is no theme. All disciplines and interpretations of art are accepted for the critique\, from representational to purely abstract…painting\, photography\, sculpture\, collage\, mixed media\, etc. Further instructions and registration information will be sent in August. Take time this summer to create something you are excited to share. \nGot Questions? Email Joyce Wilson at jw@joycewilson.com or text her at 805-682-2955. \nThe Carriage Hill community clubhouse is located off Carriage Hill Lane and Carriage Hill Drive in Santa Barbara\, CA 93110 (accessed via the Vieja Road entrance near Hope Ranch Annex).

SUMMARY:Eastman Patent
DESCRIPTION:September 4\, 1888: George Eastman receives a patent for his roll film\, a flexible celluloid-based medium that replaced glass plates and paved the way for portable cameras. On this date\, he patented the first roll-film camera\, the “Kodak\,” and registered the trademark “Kodak”. This camera\, pre-loaded with 100-exposure rolls of film\, made photography accessible to the public with its simple “You press the button\, we do the rest” slogan and business model. \nThe invention: The Kodak camera was a simple\, handheld box camera that contained a roll of flexible\, celluloid-based film. This replaced the cumbersome glass plates previously used in photography. \nThe process: After taking 100 pictures\, the owner would mail the entire camera back to Eastman’s company in Rochester\, NY. \nThe service: For a fee\, Eastman’s company would develop the film\, print the photos\, and return the camera to the customer\, reloaded with a fresh roll of film. \nThe impact: This innovation democratized photography\, transforming it from a complex and expensive hobby for professionals into a popular pastime for ordinary people. It paved the way for modern photography and the widespread documentation of everyday life.

SUMMARY:Ralph Clevenger Live at Valle Verde
DESCRIPTION:This presentation takes a deep dive into the complete photographic journey of a trip through Northern Italy\, the Dolomites\, and Tuscany. It covers the entire creative process\, beginning with the detailed logistics and digital tools used to plan the itinerary and track the light. From there\, it explores the in-field compositional strategies used to capture both dramatic alpine peaks and misty rolling hills\, concluding with a look at the editing workflow—including culling\, dynamic range management\, and stylistic color grading—used to bring the final images to life.

DESCRIPTION:Between Memory and Imagination: Twenty-Five Years of Photography and Collage\nSarah Hadley is a Los Angeles–based interdisciplinary artist working across photography\, collage and painting. Her work explores memory\, history\, and the emotional resonance of interior and architectural spaces\, often placing the female figure within layered visual narratives that examine identity\, time\, and perception. \nHadley holds degrees in art history and Italian from Georgetown University and photography from the Corcoran College / George Washington University. She has had solo exhibitions at Richard Levy Gallery in Albuquerque\, Afterimage Gallery in Dallas\, the Loyola University Museum of Art in Chicago\, the Griffin Museum of Photography in Boston\, and dnj Gallery in Santa Monica. Her work has been presented in festivals and art fairs worldwide and her images have appeared in numerous publications including Elle Italia\, Harper’s\, Le Monde\, L’Oeil de la Photographie\, Lenscratch\, and B+W Magazine. Hadley received grants from the California Center for Cultural Innovation and the Illinois Arts Council and several fellowships from the Ragdale Foundation. She currently teaches through the Los Angeles Center of Photography and Santa Fe Workshops. \nHer first monograph Lost Venice was published by Damiani Editore (Bologna) in 2020 and is held in major public collections including the National Museum of Women in the Arts\, the Getty Research Institute\, the Huntington Library\, and the Bibliothèque nationale de France. Hadley’s photographs are held in corporate and private collections worldwide.  \nHadley lives in the mountains of LA\, but treasures the ability to dip her toes in the Pacific Ocean on a regular basis. She is currently working on a project about her childhood growing up in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. Her family moved to the top floor of the museum in 1970 (as her father had just become the Director) and she was fortunate enough to spend the next 18 years surrounded by paintings by Rembrandt\, Titian\, Whistler\, and Sargent.
