June 3 Goleta Beach Super Sprint Triathlon Field Trip (arranged by Bruce Straits)

Our June field trip will be to the Super Sprint Triathlon (440 yard swim, 6.5 mile bike, 2.2 mile run) at the Goleta Beach Park. You will have the opportunity to shoot swimmers, bicyclists, and runners in a scenic setting ( http://goletabeachtriathlon.com/gallery  ).

The field trip is self-directed. Please study the course description and maps to figure out where you want to position yourself for some or all of the activities: http://www.goletabeachtriathlon.com/supersprintcoursedescription  .  The first swim wave hits the water at 8 a.m. There will be four additional swim waves, 5 minutes apart.

We need to be very careful not to interfere with the participants along the narrow race course and in the transition setup areas.  Also, there should be commercial photographers capturing each participant

Parking may be a challenge:

There are more than 500 available parking spaces at Goleta Beach Park with an additional 100 spaces available 1/4 mile up Lagoon Road at the Coastal Access point. Please carpool, ride in, or get dropped off if at all possible. . . The westend parking lot will be closed after 6:00 AM on the day of the event. All participants must be at the Park no later than this time to have sufficient time to setup their transition area and receive final instructions.( http://goletabeachtriathlon.com/ )

You may want to carpool, and park at UCSB visitor parking or coastal access parking (lots 6, 10, 22, or 5): http://www.tps.ucsb.edu/permVisShort.aspx .  Other options would include airport short-term parking, and streets near the Goleta bike path.

You should contact me to sign up for the trip, straits@soc.ucsb.edu  or phone (805) 687-2541.  Please indicate if you are interested in carpooling and if you have a UCSB parking sticker; your name will be shared with other participants.  I will be out-of-town May 12 – 24, but will send out the participant list to those who sign-up when I return.
